WORDS WORTH KEEPING

Write into the Book

Give these words a place in the Book of Promises. Your entry will be reviewed before it appears publicly.

THE BOOK OF PROMISES

A place for
your words.

Your page number is assigned by the Book.

To, From, and Location will be public. Leave out full addresses, contact details, and anything private.

YOUR WORDS. YOUR PRIVACY.

We don't know who you are.

Really. We never even asked for your email address.

Promise.me has no accounts, profiles, passwords, contact lists, or private-message database. For a private promise, we don't ask who you are or who you're sending it to.

When you make a private promise, your browser turns your words into a link.

You send that link — not us.

Text it. Email it. Drop it in a group chat. How you share your promise, and who you share it with, is up to you.

When someone opens the link, their browser reads the promise from the link and displays it. Promise.me does not save the words in your private promise or the information you enter to create it.

Your private promise lives in the link, not in a Promise.me database.

Promise Cards

When someone receives a private promise, Promise.me creates a Promise Card in their browser.

The Promise Card is generated from the words contained in the private promise link. Promise.me does not need to store a copy of the card in order to create or display it.

The recipient can choose to share that Promise Card using the sharing options available on their device, including social networks, messaging apps, email, or other services.

Promise.me does not post the card for you or choose where it goes.

If a Promise Card is shared outside of Promise.me, that copy is handled by the service or app chosen by the recipient and is subject to that service's own privacy practices.

Sharing a Promise Card does not add the promise to the Book of Promises.

What do we save?

For private promises, Promise.me does not intentionally store your promise or the information you enter to create it.

The exception is the Book of Promises.

The person writing a promise may choose to submit it to the Book of Promises. Doing so means choosing to send information to our servers so that the promise can be reviewed and, if approved, displayed publicly.

For a Book of Promises submission, we may store:

We don't ask you to create an account or provide information simply so we can identify you.

Submitting a promise to the Book of Promises is always optional. Private promises are not automatically submitted, and a recipient sharing a Promise Card does not submit it to the Book.

A private promise stays private unless the person writing it explicitly chooses to submit it to the Book of Promises.

What about analytics and ordinary website traffic?

Like most websites, Promise.me uses third-party services for things such as hosting, analytics, and advertising. Those services may process ordinary technical information about visits to the site according to their own privacy policies.

We may use anonymous or aggregated information to understand how Promise.me is being used — things like whether someone visited the site, created a promise, opened a shared promise, created a Promise Card, or selected a card language or stationery color.

We do not send the words in your private promise to analytics.

The Book of Promises is public.

If you choose to submit something to the Book of Promises and it is approved, the information you submitted for publication may become publicly visible.

Public means public. Other people may be able to read it, share it, copy it, save it, or post it elsewhere.

Once something has been made public on the internet, we can't promise that every copy of it can later be removed.

So please don't submit passwords, financial information, private personal information, secrets, or anything else you wouldn't want other people to see.

One more thing.

Anyone who has your private promise link can open the promise.

So even though Promise.me does not save the contents of your private promise, treat the link itself as something private if the message is private.

Your promise is between you and them.

Promise.me just gives your words a nice place to land.
